There are many meanings of the word. Here are a few.
\n1 – a portion or section of a written work; a paragraph, verse, etc.: (a passage of Scripture)
\n2 – a phrase or other division of a musical work.
\n3 – Fine Arts. an area, section, or detail of a work, especially with respect to its qualities of execution
\n4 – an act or instance of passing from one place, condition, etc., to another
\n5 – a lapse or passing, as of time
\n6 – an opening or entrance into, through, or out of something
\n7 – the enactment into law of a legislative measure<\/p>\n
There are more, but I think you get the gist.<\/p>\n
