Think again. Our backyard has erupted into woodpecker wars. I have several perches near our multiple bird feeders in our yard. This give birds a place to land while &#8220;waiting their turn&#8221; at the feeder. Some birds play nice, while others don&#8217;t. This particular male downy (red on back of head) has been dominant while chasing off other birds including his own species. Some species are more territorial than others.
