This is a white-eyed vireo and he doesn’t sit still for more than a second or two. He constantly flits from branch to branch. When I captured this image and reviewed it on the back of my camera I thought I captured a magical moment and composition. And, to some degree I had. What makes this image work is the composition of the vireo against the open space in the foliage and against the sky. Had there been no opening the vireo would have blended in with the background and all but disappeared. What doesn’t work, however, is the fact that the image is a bit “soft” around his face\/beak. Taken at 1\/1250 of a second there is still some movement of the bird that can be seen in his foot and beak.
So, compositionally, I really like this image (including his expression). Technically? Meh. There will be more opportunities. (I added a second image against darker foliage… just not the same!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
