Most of my butterfly shots have been against a dark/black background (the woods behind my garden). This first image was shot at 2.5 stops under exposed. The second image was shot against the late afternoon light at +3 stops overexposed in order to properly expose for the butterfly. I can’t explain the prismatic/specular highlights that showed up in the second image, but I’m grateful!

In a secluded corner of the countryside, where the meadows stretched endlessly under a glowing sky, lived two adventurous goldfinches named Finch and Fern.
