All About Hummingbirds!
Hummingbirds are perhaps my favorite bird to photograph! Why? I think for several reasons.
1 – It’s difficult! And, that makes it fun. Always searching for “the shot.” They are tiny, fast, and rarely sit still. And, shooting with a 600mm lens that is quite heavy, it’s hard – at least for me – to be in a position to get the shots I want. Did I mention this only happens in the dead of summer! Yep, the heat takes a toll on my efforts.
2 – Because they feed on nectar my hummer images are usually combined with various flowers in our garden. This helps break up my “bird on a stick” type of photos.
3 – Their behavior. These are perhaps the most aggressive bird species we have in our yard. They will attack and guard their territory against the largest of bird species, even woodpeckers. That in itself is very fun to watch, I even have a series of two hummers going at it head to head. It’s like having a ring side seat.
This is only a small gallery compared to what I’ve previously shared in my 5 bird galleries and the monthly blogs. Be sure to check them out, also.
So, I hope you’ll peruse the gallery and experience the same joy I’ve had photographing them.
