Harold E. Moran, Sr. 1924-2022 – The last of a generation
Friends of the Moran family
For the last two decades my dad’s prayer was to live 5 days longer than mom so he could always take care of her. Although a little more time than that has passed, God graciously honored his request. On July 12th our dad was reunited with mom and many other family members in heaven.
In 2000 Tom Brokaw penned a book and named this generation, The Greatest Generation. At 97 years old, dad was the last of his generation of Moran’s. Dad was the youngest of 6 siblings. He is joined in reunion with his parents, three older brothers (all served in WWll) and two older sisters – one of which died at the age of 7, nine years before dad was born. Dad remarked that he will finally get to see the sister he never met in this life.
In his years of living you can imagine he witnessed a lot in life; the Great Depression, military service in WWll, the atomic age, armed conflicts in Korea, Viet Nam, and numerous other parts of the world, 17 presidential administrations (that’s got to be some kind of record, right!), the space program and moon landing, and many other national and international events. However, it was seeing family that brought him joy; four sons, four daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren. But, for all he has seen and done, nothing compares to what he sees now. On one of my last visits with dad he quoted 1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Yes, it was the King James Version!
With the passing of my dad as the last of his generation of Morans, my mind is flooded with countless good memories of growing up in the Moran household. And, as many and important as those memories are to me, chief among them is being loved unconditionally. I may follow with some of those other memories later, but for now, Dad, “you have fought the good fight, and have finished the race, and you have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits you – the crown of righteousness.”
I love you dad!
Your namesake,
Harold Edward Moran, Jr.
