Bearing His likeness
I’ve been asked the question, “How do you do what you do?” more times than I can count. I’ll spare you the details here. Less frequently, but more importantly, I’m asked, “Why do you do what you do?” I’m glad you asked.
In the past I’ve shared a little bit about some of the challenges I face and how visual imagery contributes to my daily routine. Important as that is, it’s not the whole story. Hanging on my mom and dad’s wall is a framed plaque with the history of the Moran family name going back to Ireland. It also includes the family crest and motto – lucent in tenebris. The crest is a shield with three stars and the motto is translated in the darkness they let their light shine.
What’s the big deal with that? First of all – that’s just pretty cool by itself! Besides the cool factor, lucent in tenebris is a calling. Recently while teaching through the major stories in Genesis 1-11 Pastor Greg reminded us about how we are created in God’s image and we are to bear His likeness. While creation is witness to His splendor and majesty, only humans bear His likeness.
As a Christ follower, and one who lets his light shine in the darkness, I’ll keep capturing the image of creation and bearing His likeness – so help me God.
