Remember and Reflect
As I write this post I’m a little over a month shy of turning 63. And, events of this past week have caused me to spend some time in reflection. Much has happened over the course of my years – the ups and downs, the ins and outs – but that’s the stuff life’s made of.
I would guess I’m probably like many others in my age range who hit the pause button and take moments to remember and reflect. From childhood, through adolescence, and into adulthood, we should remember those events that brought us great joy. However, if we don’t adequately deal with the pain and sorrow we experience in life, those memories can inflict as much pain now as when they happened.
I also think it’s healthy to remember. In fact, I think it’s wise to remember. I can’t begin to count the number of times when I needed God to move in an area of my life and He showed up in His perfect timing. Many of those times are etched in my memory as if written in a book. Those memories are lessons – faith builders – meant to strengthen us and minister to one another. I’ve often heard it said, “God wastes nothing, but uses everything.” I believe that.
The word remember appears over 260 times in the bible. It must be an important topic to be used that many times. Perhaps this example will help.
So Moses said to the people, “This is a day to remember forever—the day you left Egypt, the place of your slavery. Today the Lord has brought you out by the power of his mighty hand.
Instead of trying to forget – what do you need to remember today?
